The Painters

While the figure studies of my friends are a good example of the “privileged intimacy” I explore, shooting artists at work is comparable. Most artists I’ve found don’t like being photographed while working, feeling naked and vulnerable in their creative process, but with some gentle nudging I’ve managed to lull a few into allowing me in. I’ve shot musicians and writers, magicians and dancers… but for many reasons, painters are a consistent joy to photograph.
