It's a rare treat to watch knifemaker Bob Kramer at work in his workshop in Bellingham, Washington. It's like watching a master chef manage a kitchen of 2400 degree ovens... On this day Kramer was making the steel for a new knife: mixing iron and a little carbon, melting them into a lava-esque blob, building three candy-bar sized ingots that he fused together and began a lengthy process of heating, stretching, folding, cutting, layering...
